Getting exchange rates…
A minus sign is a loss. Spread, commission and swap are not included. The rate to your account currency is the one on screen, not the rate at which your broker actually converts the result.
These are estimates for working out a trade. They leave out spread, commission, slippage and swap unless a field says otherwise, and every broker rounds lots and calculates margin in its own way. Check the figures on your trading platform. Nothing here is investment advice.

What this calculator tells you
This calculator works out the profit or loss of a trade from the entry price, the exit price, the lot size and the direction (buy or sell). It shows the result in pips, in the quote currency and in your account currency. Use it to check a past trade or to see what a target would be worth.
Worked examples
Buy 1 lot of EURUSD at 1.0800 and close at 1.0850: 50 pips, 500 USD.
Sell 0.5 lot of USDJPY at 150.00 and close at 149.60: 40 pips, 20,000 JPY. A sell gains when the price falls.
Common mistakes and things to check
- Choose the direction carefully. The same two prices give a gain on a buy and a loss on a sell.
- The result leaves out spread, commission and swap, so a platform's net figure can differ.
- When the quote currency is not your account currency, the account figure depends on the exchange rate at the time of the trade.
- Enter prices the way your platform shows them, with the same number of decimals. A typing slip of one digit changes the pips and the amount by a large factor.
- The pips figure does not depend on lot size; only the amount does. Check the lots field if the amount looks off.
